Nebraska Outdoor U!, what is it?

Nebraska Outdoor U! is an education program m that combines online and hands-on field experiences to equip participants with the skills, knowledge, and competence in outdoor skills in Hunting, Fishing, Camping, and Shooting Sports. Pathways put you in charge of your experience and prepares you to share your knowledge and experience with others.

Who can sign up for the program?

This program is for everyone, beginners and experts alike!  We like to say it is for those from 5 to 105 and beyond.  Depending on the Pathway you take, some age requirements may apply regarding leadership roles and the use of some equipment, but anyone who wants to gather outdoor skills can find a place in Nebraska Outdoor U!

What if I already know about some of the topics, should I still go through the program?

If you have an appetite for knowledge, want to give back to your community, possess a passion for nature, and want to share your experience and knowledge with others, we want and need you to become involved.

How much does it cost?

The program itself is free. You will have to purchase some equipment and permits throughout your learning experience, but these purchases will allow you to fully participate in your discipline for the rest of your life.

How long does it take to go through the program?

It is totally up to you!  You can tailor this program around your schedule and there is no time limit to finish a level.  The program is all about giving you the skills to enjoy the great outdoors.

Where will the trainings be located?

Opportunities are available statewide to learn about outdoor skills.  We can get you in touch with someone in your area to help fulfill pathway requirements.  If nothing currently is in your area, please contact us and we can help to start a program or facilitate it until volunteers are ready to start their own outdoor skills program.

I noticed there are volunteer requirements.  Where can I go to volunteer?

We support volunteering through any outdoor organization in Nebraska no matter how you find out about it, so if you hear of an opportunity, please feel free to volunteer. As we hear about volunteer opportunities throughout the state that you may be interested in, we will post links on the website, share them through the NOU! listserve, and on the NOU! Facebook page. If you have a specific place that you prefer to volunteer, let us know so we can add it to our list.

Can I do this with my family or a group of friends?

Yes, it is actually encouraged.  Time spent outdoors with family and friends is a great way to bond.  Each person in the group will want to create their own login so they can keep track of their own progress and receive incentives.
